Domaine Anne & Hervé Sigaut — Chambolle-Musigny
The Sigauts have been passionately but quietly making gorgeous wines in the tiny village of Chambolle-Musigny for generations. The secret is out and the quiet is now a thing of the past. The estate totals 17 acres, including spectacular old-vine parcels of Chambolle 1er Crus Les Fuées, Les Sentiers and Noirots – many of which are plowed by horse. Hervé follows the lunar calendar for most activities in the vineyard and cellar, and prefers to touch the wine as little as possible during élévage. The winemaking facility was re-built in 2004, with a sorting table, all stainless-steel fermentation tanks, and full temperature control. New oak is kept to a maximum of 40%. The wines are thoroughbred examples of the magnificent terroirs of Chambolle-Musigny.

2009 Chambolle-Musigny $75 >>
Deeply colored. An elegant and clearly quite ripe nose of blackberries and violets leads to rich and still very primary middle weight flavors that are underpinned by rustic tannins and a somewhat coarse finish. This feels as though it is still a long way from being ready to bottle and I suspect that it will change considerably. As such, my rating should be viewed as preliminary. (86-88)/2014+
2009 Chambolle-Musigny, Châtelots 1er $100 >>
An expressive nose combines upper and medium register aromas that include red currant, blue berry and a nose of mocha that gives way to rich, supple and very round middle weight flavors that are very Chambolle in character as this is a wine of finesse, all wrapped in a dusty and somewhat curiously given the style of the vintage, a tangy finish. (87-90)/2015+
2009 Chambolle-Musigny, les Fuées 1er $100 >>
This is also notably ripe with cassis and black fruit aromas introducing rich, delicious and suave medium-bodied flavors that possess fine mid-palate concentration and a palate staining, firm and quite serious finish along with the hallmark minerality of Fuées. (87-90)/2016+
2009 Chambolle-Musigny, Sentiers 1er $105 >>
(from vines planted in 1947). This wine provides an interesting contrast between a very ripe nose and a moderately austere finish. The nose offers up aromas of black cherries and warm earth that continue onto the delicious, rich, full-bodied and notably firm medium weight flavors that culminate in a solidly complex and impressively persistent finish of moderate austerity despite the presence of noticeable wood. This will need the better part of a decade to arrive at its peak. (89-92)/2017+
2008 Chambolle-Musigny, Châtelots 1er $99 >>
This is classic and picture-perfect Chambolle with its elegant, fresh, complex and high-toned nose of very red berry and pinot aromas that introduce delicate and lacy middle weight flavors that possess good punch and minerality on the balanced, precise and lingering finish. A lovely wine of finesse. (89-91)/2014+
2008 Chambolle-Musigny, les Fuées 1er $99 >>
2008 Chambolle-Musigny, Sentiers 1er $105 >>
(from vines planted in 1947). This is more aromatically reserved and serious with an attractive mix of red and dark fruit aromas nuanced by notes of stone, earth and floral notes that introduce bigger, rich and more complex flavors that also possess a bit more structure and finishing punch. This is a much more masculine effort where the old vines sap is readily evident and provides another dimension of depth. (89-92)/2014+
2007 Chambolle-Musigny, les Chatelots 1er $85 >>
A wonderfully pure wet stone suffused nose of both red currant and blue berry fruit with just a whiff of menthol in the background complements the delicious, precise, intense and almost delicate flavors that are on the lighter side but the minerality gives a sense of lift to the sappy tension filled finish. Lovely and understated and this should drink well early. 91-BH
2006 Chambolle-Musigny, Les Noirots 1er $75 >>
From three separate plots directly below the middle of Bonnes Mares, planted in 1964, 1980 & 1996. “This is quite ripe, indeed surprisingly so for the vintage with an appealing mix of red, blue and violet notes that introduce rich, sweet and admirably voluminous flavors are attractively textured and detailed, all wrapped in a firm, balanced and energetic finish. Lovely. (88-91)/2012+”
