Domaine des Nugues – Lancié
Owners of over 80 acres in Beaujolais, Domaine des Nugues has been in the Gelin family for four generations. It is now young Gilles Gelin in charge of the estate, which includes some 44 acres of Beaujolais Villages, 15 acres in Fleurie and 2.5 acres in Morgon – two of Beaujolais’ most prestigious Crus. Average vine age across the estate is 45+ years
The grape here of course is Gamay Noir, harvested by hand and vinified whole-cluster in the traditional semi-carbonic maceration Beaujolais method.

Gilles Gelin
The focus of the estate is on producing wines of concentration and purity, with the capacity to improve over time in the bottle. This is not light, wimpy Beaujolais. The Fleurie has the structure to age nicely for 4-5 years, and always shows lovely fruit and spice notes upon release. These are some of the best values in all of Burgundy – wines to enjoy with dinner every night, wines to buy by the case!

2010 Beaujolais Villages $16 >>
A lovely example of how good “humble” Beaujolais-Villages can be. Ripe and exotic fruits on the nose, rich and velvety on the palate, and a great value to boot!
2010 Fleurie $22 >>
Fleurie is often the most elegant and refined of the 10 Crus of Beaujolais, the top of the hierarchy pyramid in Burgundy’s most southern region. From Domaine des Nugues’ 15 acres in Fleurie comes this lovely example, with floral and spice notes on the nose, rich fruit on the mid-palate, and excellent concentration on a persistent finish. We love this with ribeyes or burgers on the grill, or with a simple Boeuf Bourguignon. Enjoy now and over the next 2-3 years. SPW
