Domaine Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier — Chambolle-Musigny
Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier (“Freddy”) is revered around the world for his ethereal, graceful, and achingly beautiful wines from his spectacular vineyard holdings in Chambolle-Musigny and Nuits-St. Georges. His Musigny, Bonnes Mares and Les Amoureuses bottlings are for many the reference-standards of great Burgundy, and we are honored to work with this special man and his pure, elegant wines.
In 2004 the 25-acre Clos de la Marechale – a 1er Cru Monopole in the Nuits-St. Georges appellation – came back under Mugnier’s control, after a long term lease to Maison Faively expired. From this site Freddy is now producing one of the most elegant and refined wines of Nuits-St. Georges – the perfect complement to his Chambolle-based wines. Happily, this wine is available in slightly larger quantities, so there is now more Mugnier wine to attempt to satisfy the enormous demand.

2009 Nuits-St. Georges, Clos de la Maréchale 1er $79 >>
An expressive and attractively fresh nose speaks of ripe and earthy red and blue pinot fruit that is very much in keeping with the tautly muscular and firm middle weight flavors that possess plenty of dry extract which buffers well the moderately dense tannins shaping the mouth coating and lingering finish. 2008 Nuits-St. Georges Clos de la Maréchale 1er $89 >>
A distinctly earthy and anise-infused mix of sour cherry and blue berry fruit that displays whiffs of crushed herbs and pepper merges into detailed, pure and almost delicate middle weight flavors that possess a sophisticated mouth feel and fine length. I should point out though that while there is no rusticity present, the very firm tannins are not as refined as those of the Fueés. 90/2016+
