Burgundy Seminars 2010
We’re excited to continue our series of Burgundy seminars, with classes for both beginning and advanced Burg-lovers. Our 2010 schedule will be posted in December and the class themes will be similar to the ones listed below.
The format will follow the last couple of years’ with the seating limited to 25 people in our tasting room in Carlton. Seminar fees cover the featured wines (usually 6-8),
Scott’s presentation and thoughtful explanations, and an array of French Cheese and Charcuterie. These seminars are a very casual, informal and inexpensive way to learn about a sometimes very confusing and complicated (but amazing!) wine region. A 20% case discount for all Scott Paul Selections Burgundies is available the night of each class as well.
All classes are Saturdays from 6-8 p.m. in our tasting room in Carlton. Reservations are required: kellykarr@scottpaul.com/503-319-5827.
Burgundy 101: Scott will explain Burgundy’s geography, history, different village characteristics, how to decipher a Burgundian wine label, and answer LOTS of your questions. While not required, it really is necessary to know these fundamentals in order to understand and appreciate the content of our other seminars. Fee: $45
Vosne-Romanée: From this tiny village (Pop. 350) comes quite simply the most famous Pinot Noir in the world. ‘The Wine of Kings”– including the legendary vineyards of Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg and Romanée-St. Vivant. We’ll explore the great Grand Crus and Premier Crus of the village, and pop the corks on some stellar wines. Fee: $79
Touring and Tasting in Burgundy: Dreaming of one day visiting Burgundy, or just want to relive memories of a wonderful experience there? Gather with us in the comfort of our tasting room where, glasses in hand, we’ll let Scott lead us on a photographic journey, exploring the local cuisine, annual celebrations, living legends, and customs. Fee: $45
Burgundy, the Graduate Course: A natural follow-up for the 101 Seminar, this class continues with the broader understanding of Burgundy, but Scott will delve into the nuances of various terroirs, producers, and vintages and pull the corks on amazing Premier and Grand Crus. Explore the characteristics of famous vineyards in the hands of different producers, look into different production techniques, and discuss all sorts of minutia that makes Burgundy endlessly fascinating. Fee: $60
Grand Cru Burgundy: Our informal Grand Cru tasting this fall was hugely popular so we’ve decided to offer a more formal study of the world of Grand Cru Burgundies and discuss what this status means and why these wines are some of the most sought-after in the world. Even if you don’t remember a bit of the information from “class”, you’re sure to have a memorable tasting experience…Fee: $79
White Burgundy: If you think you don’t like chardonnay, and haven’t discovered White Burgundy, please, please come to this seminar! The chardonnays from Burgundy are really unlike those from any other region with each appellation offering its own special nuance and style. We’ll explore Chablis, the Côte d’Or, the Côte Chalonnaise and the Mâconnais for a great overview of Burgundy’s great whites. Fee: $60
