Everybody say "Party"…
This weekend, it’s the first of our two annual Open House full-on Pinot and Burg extravaganzas – Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very exclusive event – just you and your 2,000 closest friends are invited (so please, don’t tell a soul!)
We’ll be open Saturday, Sunday & Monday from 10-4, with a nice line-up that will include white & red Burgundy and of course our newest releases from Scott Paul. Don’t forget to ask if I might have a special bottle or two open “under the table”.
It was great to see all of you who joined us last weekend for our Grand Cru Burgundy tasting & seminar. Even I don’t often get to taste three Clos Vougeots side-by-side. My take on the 06s we tasted – the Millot was the most approachable right now, the most elegant and open and understated, simply very pretty and stylish. The Lamarche was the most tannic, concentrated, and oak-driven, with a very complex and forward nose, and probably needs the most time to evolve into the beauty it is going to be. The J-J Confuron was the class of the field for me, the most refined, the most enticing textures, and stunning length. I would not kick any of the three out of bed, to be sure. A couple of bottles of the Lamarche and the Confuron remain, while the supply of Millot has been exhausted…
In the meantime, I’m gearing up for my next trip across the pond – I’ll be in Burgundy the first half of June, and will be blogging (and for the first time internationally Tweeting) as I taste and dine up and down the RN74, with a quick trip up to Chablis on the schedule as well…
In the meantime, here are three of the glorious bottles that so nobly gave their lives over the weekend…
