Champagne Marc Chauvet — Rilly-la-Montagne

Based in the tiny village of Rilly-la-Montagne, the Chauvets have been making Champagne here since 1529. Winemaker Clotilde Chauvet and her viticulturist brother Nicolas are putting the family’s 479 years of experience into every bottle produced from their 32 acre estate on the Montagne de Reims. They produce non-vintage Brut cuvées that are generally 2/3 Pinot Noir and 1/3 Chardonnay, and vintage bottlings that are about 70% Chardonnay. The style is refined, clean, bright and intensely flavorful – like drinking great white Burgundy with bubbles!

N.V. Champagne BRUT SOLD OUT >>

  • This one is 1/3 Pinot Noir, 1/3 Pinot Meunier and 1/3 Chardonnay. Two-thirds of the blend is from the 2004 vintage, and the remaining third is from a number of older vintages. This is a very pure, refined Brut, with precise, clean, laser-like citrus flavors and bright acidity. Drink early and drink often!

    N.V. Champagne BRUT SELECTION $40 >>

  • 65% Pinot Noir and 35% Chardonnay, predominantly from the 2002 vintage. The house style of pure, lighter-bodied, bright Champagne is well in evidence here, but the flavors are more expressive and more complex, with brioche, yeast, and apple notes in the mix. This is the one to have with food (a home-run with sushi!)

    Millésime 2002 Brut $50 >>

  • 55% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay, 10% Pinot Meunier. An exciting and complex nose of pears, peaches and vanilla, leading into a burst of powerful flavors of exotic fruits on the palate. More intense than the two NV bottlings.

    Special Club 1999 $55 >>

  • 50% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir, 15% Pinot Meunier. This is a powerful and full-bodied wine, with a ripe and heady nose of hazelnut, figs and almonds. In the mouth it’s brioche and toast, with amazing length and persistence. This is the one to have with foie gras!
