Story of the Rabbit
What's the deal with the rabbit? Our logo is inspired by a special painting... a painting that seemed to "choose" us. It was in Los Angeles in 1998, when the very first seeds of our desire to make wine were germinating.
At that time, Scott was working with three partners in a firm that consulted all of the major record labels, doing marketing and promotion projects for everyone from the Beatles to Britney Spears. It was a lot of fun for a long time, but it ceased being fun when rampant consolidation engulfed the music and broadcasting industries in the mid 90s.
While wrestling with the decision to leave the entertainment business and pursue the dream of making wine, a serendipitous event introduced us to a contemplative painting with a rabbit gazing skyward, entitled "Rabbit Receiving His Own Information."
Scott had literally made himself extremely sick with stress. A friend who had sold us the painting then revealed its message — that often it takes a serious illness or accident to force us to be still long enough to listen to our inner wisdom. And so, we were off to the vineyards and our new life.
The story came full circle upon our arrival in Oregon, where we learned that the painting was the work of local artist Cody Bustamante. Rabbit had come home, and so had we. The painting now hangs proudly in the tasting room at our winery in Carlton — please come visit!
