2008 La Paulée Pinot Noir
La Paulée – our most complex wine of the vintage. The 2008 version brings together fruit from three different vineyards in three different sub-appellations, and together the combination displays the full spectrum of what Pinot Noir in the Willamette valley can be.
Maresh Vineyard – One of Oregon’s oldest, planted in 1970. We farm 7.29 acres biodynamically here – own-rooted Pommard clone at the top of the Dundee Hills.
Ribbon Ridge Vineyard – A mix of Pommard and Dijon 777 clones from our 4 acres here in the Ribbon Ridge AVA.
Momtazi Vineyard – The jewel of the McMinnville AVA, a mix of Dijon clones from this certified biodynamic vineyard in the foothills of the Coast Range.
As always, all fermentations were natural, with no cultured yeasts or additions of any kind. The wine was raised for 10 months in French Oak – 20% new – and was bottled un-fined and un-filtered at 13.1% alcohol in August 2009.
Scott & Kelley’s Tasting Notes
The 2008 vintage may go down as one of Oregon’s finest ever – the fruit was perfectly ripe and healthy, and the overall balance is perhaps the best we’ve ever seen. A swirling mix of juicy red and black fruits, all in lovely harmony and coming together with a bright lift of flavor on the silky and elegant finish. Ready now, and should age gracefully for many years to come.
